# Mangrove

> Mangrove is a trading strategy platform with an MCP server (Model Context Protocol) for AI agents. Mangrove Agent runs on your machine, exposes Mangrove's strategy, backtesting and market data tools to Claude Code, Codex, Grok and any other MCP client, and executes on Kraken, Robinhood or DEXs through 1inch without taking custody of your keys or funds. Free API key, or pay per call in USDC with x402 and no signup.

Mangrove Technologies Inc. builds, tests and runs automated trading strategies with built-in guardrails. The Strategy Engine turns a plain-language thesis into executable logic, backtests it across historical windows, and the Sieve model (trained on 1.24M+ strategies) predicts which candidates are worth a backtest in about 30 ms. The same engine is exposed to people in the Mangrove app (mangrove.io) and to agents through the MCP server and REST API. Mangrove does not give financial advice; backtests are historical simulations, not forecasts; live orders are placed only with the user's approval and under the risk limits they set.

## When to use Mangrove

- An agent needs crypto market data, indicators, on-chain or social sentiment data behind one API key or an x402 wallet.
- An agent needs to generate, verify, save and backtest a trading strategy (223 signals, 99 indicators, 27 candlestick patterns, market regime checks).
- An agent needs to paper trade a strategy, then promote it to live execution on Kraken, Robinhood or a DEX with drawdown limits, position limits and an audit log.
- A developer wants a Claude Code plugin or agent skills for trading research instead of writing exchange integrations.

## How agents should use Mangrove

- MCP, hosted: the MangroveAI MCP server answers initialize at https://api.mangrovedeveloper.ai/mcp/ (streamable HTTP). Authenticate with a Mangrove API key or pay per call with x402. Call list_tools for the live catalog (119 tools as of October 2026).
- MCP, local: install Mangrove Agent (below). It serves MCP over HTTP at http://127.0.0.1:9080/mcp/ on the user's machine, forwards Mangrove tool calls to the hosted server, and adds local wallet, Kraken, DEX and execution-record tools. status and list_tools need no key.
- REST: Mangrove Agent exposes local tools at /api/v1/agent/*; hosted tools are called over MCP or through the Mangrove Developer API (https://mangrovedeveloper.ai). Read the API reference at https://mangrove.io/docs before calling.
- Safety: market data, strategy, backtest and paper-trading tools do not move funds. Wallet, swap and exchange order tools need the user's keys on their machine and the user's explicit approval. Kraken access is either a least-privilege API key that never leaves the machine or a scoped OAuth grant.
- Pricing: free API key from https://mangrovedeveloper.ai, or x402 pay-per-call in USDC with no signup; backtests are metered by the candlesticks they process.
